Greetings Neighbor!
Just a reminder that the start of the 17 week A- Train outage begins this Friday, January 17th at 11:30PM until Monday, May 20th at 5:00 AM. The MTA teams and Schiavone are hard at work in preparation for the start of work. Please note, there are large banners up at the entrances of affected stations as well as large posters. Every station also has a supply of brochures about the outage and the different travel paths for customers. MTA has brochures printed in multiple languages including Spanish, Russian and Haitian Creole.

Monday, January 13th – Far Rockaway, Broad Channel and Beach 67th Street
Tuesday, January 14th – Far Rockaway, Broad Channel and Beach 67th Street
Wednesday, January 15th – Beach 25th Street, Broad Channel and Beach 36th Street
Thursday, January 16th Beach 40th Street, Beach 60th Street and Beach 105th Street
Friday, January 17th Rockaway Park – Beach 116th Street, Beach 90th and Beach 96th Street
As a reminder for this first weekend and last weekend of the project that the travel alternatives will be different than rest of the outage.
PLEASE NOTE: From 11:30 PM Friday, January 17 to 5 a.m. Monday, January 20:
A Trains will NOT run between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
Trains will run between Inwood-207 St and Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd or Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
Rockaway Park Shuttle trains won't run.
For service to/from affected stations, take free shuttle buses, which will run on three routes:
Nonstop between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av, making all stops: Broad Channel, Beach 90 St, Beach 67 St, Beach 60 St, Beach 44 St, Beach 36 St, and Beach 25 St.
Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St, stopping at Broad Channel, Beach 98 St, and Beach 105 St.
Service changes starting Monday, January 20, 2025 until the last weekend of the project on Friday, May 17th will be:
A trains will not run between Howard Beach–JFK Airport, Far Rockaway–Mott Av and Rockaway Park–Beach 116 St. Additionally, Rockaway Park Shuttle trains will not run to or from Broad Channel.
Free shuttle bus service will be available to riders along two routes. The Q97 will run non-stop between Howard Beach and Far Rockaway via Nassau Expressway. The Q109 will run from Howard Beach to Beach 67 St via Broad Channel and Beach 90 St.
LIRR will offer a discounted ticket of $2.75 at Far Rockaway Station on the Far Rockaway Branch, bringing the cost of a ride to less than the cost of a subway ride. The Far Rockaway Branch provides connections to Atlantic Terminal, Penn Station and Grand Central Madison for customers needing to travel through.
A fare-free S shuttle train will operate, serving all stations on the peninsula between Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park – Beach 116th Street for the duration of the outage.
Select QM15 express buses will be extended to Arverne and will make QM17 stops beyond their regular terminus in Howard Beach. The QM15 will continue to make all regular stops in Queens and Manhattan.
The QM16 (western Rockaway/Broad Channel) and the QM17 (eastern Rockaway/Broad Channel) express buses will each add one peak roundtrip during this time. The regular $7 express bus fare will be charged on the QM15, QM16 and QM17. Please use the “plan trip” feature on the MTA app, or mta.info and refer to bus schedules to plan ahead.
