EDGEMERE COMMUNITY CIVIC ASSOCIATION'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
April 20, 2024
Greetings Neighbor!
On Tuesday, April 16th ECCA met with NYC Parks and U.S. Fish and Wildlife via Zoom to discuss the Endangered Birds Nesting Area that takes away our access to the beach. We were told that there will be two access points at Beach 47th and Beach 52nd Streets. ECCA requested more access points and were told that’s the best NYC Parks can do. The majority of the community members on the call felt otherwise. Our Councilmember/Majority Whip, Selvena Brooks-Powers was present to support the Edgemere community in our resolve for beach access. The Edgemere community has always been overlooked and ignored. We face constant flooding, poor infrastructure, no access to healthy foods, no access to parks, retail, etc. Now we’ll soon be facing overdevelopment of apartment buildings and not homeownership. ECCA is here as a resource to the community as we continue our quest for equality and justice but we also need your voice in this process. Our journey for equality and justice is and has been long but it’s a journey worth taking!
