New York City Emergency Management has issued a travel advisory for 3/9 to 3/10. NYCEM recommends New Yorkers, particularly those residing or operating businesses in coastal areas to remain alert and take preparedness actions.
The National Weather Service has issued citywide flood alerts for potential flooding. In southern Queens, a Coastal Flood Watch is in effect from 6:00 p.m. Saturday to 1:00 p.m. Sunday to account for flooding during two high tide cycles on Saturday evening and again Sunday morning. The greatest chance of heavy rain is expected Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Coastal Flood Statements are also in effect for Brooklyn, Manhattan, southern Queens, and Staten Island for minor flooding tomorrow morning with up to 1 foot of flooding possible along vulnerable shorelines.
Coastal Flooding may cause flooding in the city, including highways, streets, basements, and underpasses. During periods of heavy rain, seek higher ground or, if in a basement, move to a higher floor.
Coastal Flooding may create dangerous travel conditions:
New Yorkers are advised to limit travel and stay inside during periods of severe weather.
If you must travel, exercise caution. Do not drive your vehicle or walk into areas where water covers the roadway as the water depth may be too great to allow you to cross safely.
