ECCA Civic Update
Our next civic meeting is Monday, March 4th at 7pm at the Arverne East Welcome Center, 190 Beach 44th St. We look forward to seeing you there!
The National Weather Service has issued the following:
What: Coastal Flood Statement
Where: Queens South
When: On 2/10 at 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Hazards: High tide flooding caused by this week’s new moon will continue through the weekend and Monday. A storm moving through the area early next week will bring the potential for widespread minor to locally moderate flooding Tuesday morning, especially in Jamaica Bay and portions of northern Queens along the Long Island Sound. There is a possibility of minor to moderate flooding on City Island/The Bronx late Monday and Tuesday as well.
Preparedness Actions:
- Avoid driving through or coming in contact with flood waters. There could be pollutants in the water or other hazards that you cannot see.
- Coastal flood waters could damage your vehicle. Move your car to higher ground, and wash your car thoroughly if it makes contact with flood waters.
- New York City residents, please call 311 if you encounter flooding that makes roads impassable, causes property damage, or persists for more than 48 hours.
It will be important to check the forecast as predictions about the storm’s arrival become more accurate. You can check the National Weather Service and also look at the Stevens Flood Advisory System for updates. For context, the “minor flood” threshold is 7.5ft MLLW and the “moderate flood” threshold is 8.2 ft. MLLW. Inundation of up to one half foot above ground level may cause minor flooding of shore roads and properties.
